The Story Behind LadyFast

In the novel Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty, passengers aboard a flight are told — one by one — their fate. When it’s your turn, you’re faced with a choice: What will you do about it?

During my pregnancy, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. After giving birth, I was told there was a 50% chance I’d develop type 2 diabetes later in life. At the time, I didn’t fully grasp the weight of that statistic — but I stayed committed to regular blood tests.

Lately, those results began to creep toward the prediabetic range.

To be honest, I never fit the stereotype. I’m an Asian woman in my early 40s, a size 10 — not particularly overweight — just carrying a little extra around the middle, the remainder of my mummy bump. But with the shadow of diabetes looming, I knew it was time to take action.

I tried calorie counting, but it didn’t work well for me. After reading several books on nutrition and fasting — including The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung — I became more mindful of what I ate and how my body responded to different eating patterns.

That’s when I discovered a fasting feature in a calorie-counting app and began experimenting with 16:8 fasting. While it brought some results, my premenopausal symptoms worsened — and I found myself losing my temper far more often than I used to. I didn’t feel balanced. I didn’t feel like myself.

Then I read Dr. Mindy Pelz’s Fast Like a Girl. Her approach — syncing fasting protocols with the menstrual cycle — made so much sense. I followed her plan, adjusted my fasting rhythm, and over six months, my blood sugar levels came fully under control. My waistline returned to 27” — something I hadn’t seen in 15 years.

The only challenge? Keeping track of all the fasting variations each week. As a busy mum with a technical background, I knew I could build something better. So I did.

That’s how LadyFast was born — a planning and scheduling app designed to help women fast with their natural rhythms, not against them.

I originally built the app for myself — I was User #1. I added features that supported my own journey, like weight tracking and a custom wellbeing score to reflect how I was really feeling. The app also supports drag-and-drop functionality so you can easily rearrange fasting days to accommodate social events, changes in energy, or just everyday life. It’s designed to be flexible — because real life doesn’t always follow a perfect schedule.

With the launch of 9 to 3 Lab, I decided to dedicate those precious “mum hours” — between school drop-off and pick-up — to building tools that help women take charge of their health with clarity, confidence, and compassion. And now, I’m proud to share LadyFast with a broader community of women who want to fast in a way that truly fits their lives.

I believe a simple, effective app shouldn’t cost a fortune. There are already too many products out there profiting from women’s frustration around weight and wellbeing. That’s not what LadyFast is about. I’ve priced the app at about the cost of a cup of coffee per year — because support should be affordable, respectful, and empowering.

Thank you for being here.
I hope LadyFast helps you feel in control, supported, and strong — one fast at a time.
